I was shutting down an HP machine about 20 years ago. At the end, it told me that I should power cycle.
I thought about it for quite a while and in the end decided that it was probably safe to turn it off.

The old mainframe (OK, “old” goes without saying) here required a hammer whack to get its disk drives going.
