This article is being shared by a lot of people, but it has some really interesting points and is well written. At the risk of spoiling the story, here’s what I found the most interesting:
1) retailers are getting really good at correlating buying patterns with life patterns, like unscented lotion at 2nd trimester
2) customers are creeped out that retailers know that much about them
3) so retailers mix some targeted coupons (e.g. baby products) with random others so customers can’t tell they’re being stalked
4) it works: the data mined customers buy more
