Deep, but interesting and — holy cow — there’s a lot of applications. The applications to dynamic green screening starts at 32:10. There’s some cool undeforming examples at around 39:00, with re-deforming at 40:00 and 42:30 of a shape onto a surface (augmented reality). Automatic stabilization at 44:20. Separating vocals from background music at 49:00. Normal internet traffic vs. anomalies at 49:50.

This is another talk from MMDS 2012 which had astounding results presented. Yi Ma and his team show how to create, effectively, a kind of “green screen” effect from multiple surveillance cameras. Potentially frightening applications, but excellent math 🙂
