Interesting. I’m not the first to say: RED is taking a very software/tech-centric approach to media as opposed to the hardware+standardization approach of many other companies. It lets RED be very agile by ignoring the other companies and going their own way. I’m now curious what’s the format of that 4K data going over HDMI to the TV. I haven’t read enough about the codecs yet.

  1. 4K over HDMI is already standard and working, just like HD in data format, just more (and faster). A PC with a good graphics card can drive a 4K TV. We’ve done this from Vegas Pro, in realtime, with the right media source.
