I bike about 6 miles to work each day. I’m reasonably fast for a commuter, but I have to work pretty hard to keep it under 30 minutes which works out to just 12 mph.
I recently quantified my bottleneck: my mostly-residential route has 16 stop signs and 4 traffic lights. Ugh. I miss my old mostly-bike-path route to work at Clotho… Same distance, but consistently 5+ minutes faster.
stupid question: you still in Madison?
Mark Kudas Yes
I have the same problem, lots of turns and stops over 16 miles… not much difference between riding loaded (35+ lb) touring bike or 18 lb race bike, maybe 5 minutes moving time because of the frequent deceleration/acceleration, waiting for traffic, etc…
