Sony’s Ci platform is becoming a big deal in the professional video market, for broadcast news and post production. The simplest explanation is that it’s like Dropbox optimized for video content, but it’s so much richer than that.

My favorite feature: It has a really sophisticated user model that works great with a modern distributed team composed of staff, partner companies, freelancers, etc. You can easily choose from several levels of granularity: invite someone to a whole workspace, a single work session, or a specific set of media files.

The team that built this is called Sony Media Cloud Services, and they themselves are a very distributed team. I worked with them on a few small features (new file formats) and was deeply impressed with their skills. This is a product worth watching.
