This is really significant. Sell-and-forget hardware that never gets a security update is inevitably going to lead to lawsuits and/or legislation. There’s so little incentive for manufacturers to self-regulate that the problem will only get worse without external pressure. And consumers will never be that pressure — there just aren’t enough of them that understand the stakes.
