The contrast between forest inside the park boundary and grazing land outside the park boundary is striking.

The contrast between forest inside the park boundary and grazing land outside the park boundary is striking. Here are some more excellent pictures of that boundary: http://www.amusingplanet.com/2016/01/mount-taranaki-and-egmont-national-park.html

Earth from Space: Egmont National Park, New Zealand

In this composite image you can see the Egmont National Park with the Mount Taranaki volcano, New Zealand, imaged by the Operational Land Imager (OLI) aboard Landsat 8. The images were taken June 6th, 2016 at 10:06pm GMT.

A quite interesting example on how designating an area as a National Park can protect the environment. At the center you can see the Mount Taranaki volcano (https://goo.gl/7vyMBh), a stratovolcano (https://goo.gl/x0gjJY) with an elevation of 2,518 meters (8,261 feet), located in the Egmont National Park (https://goo.gl/huJjH6) in New Zealand, which was established in 1900. The differences in vegetation of the protected area with a radius of 9.6 kilometers around the summit, compared to the unprotected area are striking.

Egmont National Park is located close to the west coast of the North Island (Te Ika-a-Māui, https://goo.gl/ay3tHZ) of New Zealand.

Technical Data

For those interested, here the technical data for this image. The image is a pansharpened OLI Band 4-3-2 (natural color) image. The colors are near natural but slightly oversaturated, contrast is slightly enhanced. Image scale is 37.5 meters/pixel.

  1. Mike Hauptman не считайте себя виновником проблем экологии! В этом месте все восстановится! Человеку надо только сократить свои непомерные запросы!
